Magnessium Hydroxide (MDH) contains molecules of water. When MDH is exposed to heat above 320 degree C, it decomposes to release water. This is an irreversible and endothermic reaction. This property makes Magnessium Hydroxide an effective flame retardant.
The smoke generated by decomposition is non-corrosive and non-poisonous.
